What is a Legislative Agenda?
A Legislative Agenda (LA) is a package of policies and legislative measures designed to either correct a problem or support needed priorities.
For a politician or political action committee, it serves as a roadmap or guide that will outline their perceived district needs .
For a business, they serve as a roadmap or guide on how to expand and protect their markets, products and proprietary information.
What do our agendas do?
Our agenda’s are designed to do three things. First and foremost, they are designed to tackle complex problems and provide pro consumer solutions to them.
Second, and just as important, often a legislative proposal is designed to start the public discussion going about that specific issue.
Third, they are designed to attract interest not just from Politicians and PACS, but the media and members of the public (consumers).
What are legislative agendas used for?
Legislative agendas are used for several purposes.
1) They are used to help those creating the agenda become part of the discussion and solution process regarding an issue or piece of legislation;
2) They are created to balance one side’s views vs. the others (often there are two versions to an issue - the majority party and the minority party - and then they ideas are negotiated through the committee process)
3) They are used as coalition builders - to help push groups and individuals in the right direction by working together. Coalitions are used to either support this legislation, or oppose other legislation.
4) They are used to help raise money that will be needed to fund the legislative fights that will happen one way or another when your idea is introduced.
